Nothing was stolen. Everything was recorded somewhere else.
When a distributor reconciles a shortfall in person, the units turn up. It takes a week of somebody's time per outlet, which is why it is done once a year and not once a month.
Three were transferred to another outlet
A branch manager moved slow stock to a busier store. Entirely sensible, invisible to the distributor's system, and recorded in a WhatsApp message.
Two were sold and reported late
The point-of-sale export failed on the last day of the month. The sales appear in the following month's report against the wrong period.
Two are genuinely missing
Shrinkage. It exists, it is small, and it is impossible to see while the other nine are still unexplained.
Two units of real loss, hidden inside nine units of paperwork. The annual reconciliation finds both and cannot tell them apart.
